Director Alex Gibney’s success with his movie Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, has landed him a deal to create a CBS television series about corporate crime.
The highly original concept goes like this: A low-level but dedicated government employee uncovers (insert gasp here) greed and corruption in the corporate world.
Of course, Hollywood and TV entertainment already portray big business as inherently (insert gasp here) evil conspiracies controlled by conniving Republicans who snicker as they squash the little guy. So I’m not sure how Mr. Gibney’s new CBS show is going to break any new ground.
Maybe they’ll work bird flu into the script. And a blood-splattered conference room crime scene. And maybe a brash but sexy lawyer with a precocious elementary school kid who hacks into the company extranets. Now we’re talking.
This could be as big for CBS as that Dynasty reunion.
