Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper is in need of a new city communications director and spokesperson.
Former director Lindy Lent spent four good years in the high-profile, political appointment position before taking a gig as senior advisor in the mayor’s office. She sent me the official job posting, which you can read in full at the city’s official web site.
Among the highlights:
- Serve as spokesperson for the Mayor's Office and administration, advancing the City's primary mission and goals.
- Manage proactive and reactive message strategy and coordination with Mayor's Office staff, department/agency heads and departmental public information officers.
- Coordinate crisis communications; establish emergency and strategic plans and protocols for crisis communications, including notification of staff and pertinent officials and departments/agencies.
- Develop and disseminate internal communications from the Mayor's Office to City employees.
- Draft, review and/or approve a variety of informational and promotional materials- including media advisories, press releases, opinion editorials, web content, reports, brochures, etc.- for policy, content, accuracy, and style, and direct the distribution of information for the appropriate medium(s).
- Handle research and response to media information requests, including Open Records Requests. Assist in preparing responses to complex constituent issues.
- Plan and/or coordinate mayoral media events; handle Mayor's media-related scheduling; staff media events and interviews; undertake special projects as they arise; and manage small communications staff and related functions.
And as you can expect, you’ll need to be available for “long hours and unpredictable work schedule.” Denver’s got a lot going on these days.
