Buried in the middle of a New York Times story on American attitudes toward the war in Iraq is this startling fact:
“… 33 percent of all Americans, including 40 percent of Republicans and 27 percent of Democrats, say Saddam Hussein was personally involved in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.”
The findings are part of a nationwide New York Times/CBS News poll conducted during the week before the sixth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
In another conspicuous contradiction of the information glut, however, the same poll also found that sixty percent of all Americans believe that administration officials “deliberately misled the public in making a case for the war.”
