As politicians, power-brokers and protesters converge on Denver's historic Democratic National Convention, some 800 National Guard troops have made camp a few miles away at Johnson & Wales University. "They took over the whole campus and are staying in the residence halls," complained one student, adding that the soldiers were also feasting in the dining hall served by the university's renowned culinary school. One employee called the whole scene terribly eerie.
Meanwhile, 5280 Magazine has hired six-foot tall Nuclia Waste as "Official Drag Queen Correspondent for the DNC." She'll be wearing five-inch platform boots, a big green fright wig and four layers of makeup.
"We'll be crashing all the parties and stalking all the famous celebrities here in town and interviewing them on camera," she told the Rocky Mountain News. "It should be a riot."
No pun intended. At least we hope not.
