As senior counsel in GBSM’s Corporate Reputation & Crisis Management Practice, Steve brings some 30 years’ experience in a myriad of complex scenarios, from M&A repositioning and litigation to sudden crisis and heated controversy.
Steve’s skills derive from a diverse background. He’s held communications and public relations positions at a Fortune 500 company, the Pentagon, with two of the world’s largest PR agencies, and as founding president of a successful firm that helped launch several new companies. His pragmatic approach to crisis communications reflects his experience as a reporter, soldier and PR executive. He’s worked overseas and across the U.S. He also holds a top secret U.S. security clearance.
A recognized expert in crisis and controversy, Steve has responded to situations ranging from murders at a family restaurant to national headlines calling Denver International Airport “the biggest public works boondoggle in U.S. history.” He's counseled a major TV network during a libel lawsuit, assisted a university to manage scandals, helped companies deflect activist attacks. He directed community affairs after a deadly factory explosion. He’s been behind the scenes when well-known public companies and large nonprofits fired their CEOs. And he has an even longer list of clients whose issues remain confidential.
Steve’s credentials as a corporate communications and issues management strategist are equally deep. With a hands-on understanding of venture start-ups to large international companies, Steve’s client roster spans a wide array of industries including technology, energy, commercial development, hospitality, healthcare and many others.
Active in family and community life, Steve also serves as of counsel to Soles4Souls, a social enterprise that fights poverty through the distribution of millions of used and new shoes worldwide.
